Meet your Birth Guide:
With Grace:
My name is Ta’Ja Seville, and I am honored to be your Earthside Guide. I am a wife, a mother to two beautiful children, a dedicated teacher, and a passionate Full Spectrum Birth Doula. My journey into birth work began with my own experiences, where I witnessed firsthand the deep flaws within the medical system and the alarming disparities in maternal care that disproportionately impact Black women and their babies.
I have listened to the voices of countless women who approach birth and motherhood with fear—fear rooted in systemic inequities and a lack of compassion that too often define their care. No woman should ever have to question whether she will be treated with dignity during one of the most transformative moments of her life.
My mission is to stand as a protector and advocate for women and infants, ensuring they receive the care, respect, and humanity they deserve. I am here to make the journey into motherhood as healthy, empowering, and low-stress as possible. My role is to honor your story, uplift your strength, and create a birthing experience grounded in love, safety, and joy.
For the past four years, I have been privileged to serve as a doula, providing support to women through both private care and Medi-Cal services. It is my greatest joy to walk alongside families during this sacred time, ensuring every transition into motherhood is met with grace and reverence.
As your Earthside Guide, I am dedicated to the well-being, empowerment, and upliftment of all women, especially Black women and their families, through every phase of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I acknowledge the systemic challenges rooted in white supremacy that have disproportionately impacted Black maternal and infant health, and I am committed to dismantling these barriers through culturally affirming, holistic care.
My core values are:
Cultural Empowerment and Healing – I center the lived experiences and wisdom of Black women, offering care that honors ancestral knowledge, traditions, and community resilience.
Community-Centered Care – I believe in collective health and wellness, understanding that the health of mothers and babies is deeply connected to the well-being of our communities. My services are grounded in the values of mutual support, communal care, and advocacy for systemic change.
Reclaiming Birth – I reject the harmful narratives and practices imposed by white supremacy in maternal healthcare. My focus is on reclaiming birth as a sacred, powerful process where Black women lead with autonomy, dignity, and respect.
Holistic and Culturally Affirming Support – I provide comprehensive care that respects the emotional, spiritual, and physical needs of Black birthing individuals, creating a space where they are fully seen and valued.
Birth Justice and Advocacy – I actively fight for birth justice, advocating for equitable care and standing against medical racism. I am committed to reshaping the birthing experience by centering the voices and choices of Black women.
My mission is to create a world where Black mothers and babies thrive, free from systemic oppression, in a community that honors their inherent strength, wisdom, and joy.
**Disclaimer**
At Earthside Guide, I am committed to supporting all women through their unique pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journeys. While my work predominantly centers on the needs of Black women and their families—due to the historical and ongoing discrimination and disparities that have disproportionately impacted their maternal and infant health—I welcome and assist women of all backgrounds. My mission is to provide culturally affirming, compassionate, and empowering care to all who seek support, fostering a birthing experience that honors each individual’s dignity, choices, and needs.
